I've had some time off for the Christmas holiday and spent some of that time finishing projects that I started some time ago. Chief among those projects was getting digital video off of tape from the camera and into my computer, then doing a little editing with iMovie to complete some movies to be burned to DVD. I don't have a DVD burner so that final step will have to wait a while longer.

Anyway, I've had this idea to post of couple of sermons that someone videotaped for me on my blog. I thought Youtube was the way to go but the sermons were beyond their 10 minute limit even though the file size was okay. Do you know the difference between a sermon and a homily? About 10 minutes!

I thought I would give Google Video a try and guess what, they have come through again! The videos uploaded easily and they gave me an option to post them to my blog with just a couple of clicks. I was worried about how I was going to accomplish that step. They made it easy.

So, finally, the previous two posts are sermons that I preached filling in for an interim minister who had a heart attack. I actually preached there three out of four weeks. The last time I was there they gave me a VHS tape with my two previous sermons on it. The minister who had the heart attack was able to go with me on the last trip and is doing fine with interims in other places.

Back in the USA

I made it back to the USA early Wednesday morning, September 26th. I've traveled over 20,000 miles to visit Tanzania and return to Kentucky!

It took me three days to get to Mpwapaw including an 8-hour bus ride on the last leg. When I arrived, a local dance group was ready to greet me with drumming and dancing. The picture above shows traditional tribal dancers in front of Russ and Lisa's house. The second picture shows Russ, Matthew, and Lisa overlooking Mpwapaw in the valley below. We had gotten up before daylight to hike into the mountains.

I took this opportunity for adventure while Russ and Lisa, Peace Corps Volunteers, could show me the land and people they have come to know.

I will be traveling to Tanzania September 16th to visit Russ and Lisa who are Peace Corps Volunteers there. I will be returning on September 26th! Maybe some photos of my African adventure will turn up on the photo gallery at Lisa's blog. I'll post one or two here when I return.

My cell phone will be off while I am away.

House sitting

I have been house-sitting in rural Madison County since late June. It is about 17 miles out from Richmond. The house is a half-mile from the gate on a farm of about 100 acres. There is no livestock to care for except for a dog, Millie, and a cat, Bones, pictured above.

The gravel driveway to the house crosses a dam that separates two small ponds. Note the birdfeeders at the lower pond pictured above. The birdwatching and stargazing are great. It is a nice retreat at a good time in my life.
